I am thinking about purchasing this machine. Has anyone had experience with it? I am weary about the side tool changer over the carousal. I have been told that there is a lot of down time if it breaks. Any info about problems and benefits with this machine would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

| hi we have both the vf2 ss and a standard vf2 we have had more problems with the carousal type than we have had with the side mount. not had any problems with the side mount. the carousal version had a faulty micro switch on it which in short left the carousal in the in position when the machine started this resulted the carousal being ripped off the machine and ending up in the bottom of the machine. otherwise both machines are great this is the only problem we have had with them. |

| I just purchased a VF-3SS. This has side tool changer. I have not had a single problem with the machine. The machine is super fast and accurate. It blows away my FADAL with Siemens 840D control.

| i have a vf2-ss with side tool changer no problems with the changer yet but i have had lots of other problems mostly software and intermitant problems now they take for ever to fix and lots of down time. (still not fixed 1 year later)and a weird grinding noise at 11000rpm and up but i have been told its normal? and some other things. the great part is you buy a haas you meet lost of nice people service tecs phone suport your sales man .you will know them all by name did i mention service tecs anyways if you are a job shop i would not go with the ss just the regular vf with the side mount tool changer and a gear box. if you are production shop in softer material i would go with the ss with side mount. |

| lots of spindle faults you would be running a program and the spindle would just stop and would not alarm in differnt parts of the program never the same place twice i am not talking dead stop i mean just turn off like you shut down the main power it dosnt make a noise the spindle keeps spining but its free spining and you can stop it you have to let it stop on its own and at 12000 rpm it takes 15 min if the machine is warm and 9 if its cooler then the spindle can re zero itself then you are off to the races unless it did it at a tool change then it tool changer faults and you have to reset that after the spindle stops re find the tool in the changer that is the bigest thing the others were fixed with the updates oh wait i am still waiting for that a year later dont get me wrong i like my mill but its the little things that kill you everything is extra when you turn the power off or there is a power anything your spindle drops a bit they have a fix for that 500$ usd dosnt sound bad untill you explode a new 200 tool bit. long story shot well happy shopping |
