Question programmable coolant nozzle

question, the programmable coolant nozzle, when it turns off is it supposed to stop completely or does it run itself out? my operator just came up to me and said that lately when he opens the doors to change the part, it seems like the coolant nozzle runs out, and not like its pumping. its shut off but it keeps running for a bit. never noticed before either way, any ideas?

Geof will become famous soon enough

The coolant keeps flowing for quite some time. There was a thread on this topic a while back with a few suggestions for combatting the problem. I think it is caused by the plastic coolant lines all stretching slightly under pressure so even though the pump turns of the coolant flows until the lines have contracted. There is a non return valve near the pump so the coolant does not back flow. I had a problem with a gantry machine pouring vast quantities of coolant on the floor when the head went over for a tool change so I made a complicated shutoff that closes mechanically when the spindle goes to Z zero.

Don't know if it will help, and maybe you're already doing it, but try M09 before calling the z-home or toolchange command, so the coolant shuts off before Z goes home.

Install an inline check valve. They cost less than $5.00. You should be able to get one at any local hardware store. Install it as close to the servo coolant system to minimize the amount of residual coolant in the line.

I installed a check valve on the MiniMill at school which worked for awhile and then "locked up" which didn't make sense as it should not have needed a separate drain behind the poppet. Rather than investigate and correct, I simply removed the check valve and went back to making chips. The mill still has prostrate problems, but I haven't followed up on my plan to correct it as yet.... too many projects to complete before the end of the school year.

we had the same problem on our vf2 twice and we called haas and the guy came out and replaced a little green metal kinda box that has a filter in it. he suggested we get a water filter for the air line reight before it goes into the machine and it seems to be working so far.

Hi,

2 things that I am aware of can cause the problem you state.
the one is if the coolant sump is quite low it will keep running out the spigot for a brief time after coolant is off. This is a real hassle sometimes.
The other is more involved, but has happened to me. The haas casting has a zig zag coolant track thru the casting in the head to remove latent heat. These 2 sides of the head have this coolant passage and if cover leaks enough air into system it will drool, and drool forever. You can not easily see this if leaking while running the machine because it looks normal and it will be dripping right down out of the lower sheet metal head cover. To inspect you could try to shut off coolant valve(s) and see if there is any leakage while charging the system with the coolant pump. If so you can bet your last Dollar on it being the cause to the constant drip. Also you could remove the sheet metal cover and have a look. This is no big deal, just make sure you unplug the little pig tail wire plug to the tool eject button. They give you a little room to do this. Remove cover slightly tilt away and unplug.

we have the auto door so it opens when the program is done running and it does this and if your using a larger end mill it will fling coolant all over you if you dont stand back, its pretty funny tho when the new guys run there first program hehe
