software package do you use for CAD?CAM? I hope thats the right term....I mean something like Mastercam. I need something for my TM-2 but can't afford Mastercam. I don't do any real complicated parts. I need something that is REAL EASY to learn. Also is there any g-code instructional software thats free? I have CNCEZ that came with the book I bought for a night school class that I took way back in 1996 but I woun't run on my present computer. |

| Yes, thats the correct term. I purchased Mastercam, when I saw how lame the quick code was. There are cheaper Cam systems than Mastercam, check out Onecnc, I would stay away from Bobcam, it is cheap yes, but money spent on a Cad/Cam is money that is well spent. Look for one that is well supported in your area, that helps if you have problems. Make sure they have a post for your machine, you want usable code from your cam system. I like having all the cutting option that Mastercam has, you can setup your own tool libraries and operations libraries, for tools you use often in your shop. You can setup operations libraries for operations you use alot. Like setup a operation that brings in all the tools to center drill, drill, and tap a 1/4-20 hole, or mill a series of pockets with nice toolpaths that work well. |

| This should always be the first question when choosing software. The next one is "how will it change in the future?". Followed by what have others used in that way. After that enter price into the equation. It looks like you have to put some thought behind this. The one good thing is that you have bought a Haas. Haas is very well supported by every CadCam system. I am using BobCadCam for a few years now. We do pretty intricate parts with this. A lot of people will put up their noses after reading this. I agree it has it's moments. Most Mastercam users will have a harder time to learn it then others. Another choice if you run only 2D on this is TurboCadCam by IMSIDesign. It would fit into the $1000 range. Any questions ? Just PM me! |
