Moving a MiniMill

I needed to move a Super MiniMill a couple of miles down the road and then across 100 yards of lawn where no trucks can go. So I built a transport module. Couldn't resist taking the picture of it behind my minivan. The first step was by truck. Then over the fence beside the driveway. Hooked up to the garden tractor. Taking a tour through the countryside. In the back door of the home workshop. Getting set up in its new home. The whole exercise was not as frivolous as it might appear; I use the machine for prototypes and product development in peace and quiet away from the production shop.

Geof, how wide and tall was that door opening that you are bringing the machine through?

Thanks

Looks like just enough headroom in the workshop too.

The door was a little bit less than 8 feet and 7 feet wide. Actually you can get the MiniMill through 65 inches wide. You will notice the flex tube for all the spindle connections was disconnected and laid sideways.

Quite a bit of planning went into this move; the transport module was static load tested with 6500lbs and a moving test was done by driving a 5500lbs 4x4 onto it and towing it down the yard.

The machine is actually a Super MiniMill with the raised Z axis option which is why it is higher and heavier than a standard MiniMill. Also two Kurts and a Haas HRT210 Rotary were left on the table and that added over 500 lbs.

My door way is 85"X66". Looks like the door way will have to be modified on the height.

Thanks

Maybe I should not mention that my real shop is only 35 minutes walk; 3-1/2 minutes driving.

I have visited the LA area several times and understand your provocation. I will never rent a car down there.

Do you own the "real shop" as well?

That would realy make me jelous!

Although truthfully I have a mill in my garage as well but its a homemade variety.

And it just a good!
(thats my story and I'm sticking too it! )

ps: I sometimes forget that some endearing curse words are often mis-interpreted in other parts of the world/country. If so please accept my apologies! It was only in jest.
