TM 2 Spindle Speed Boost

Hi freinds,
I empoly a Haas Toolroom Mill (TM-2) daily in my shop for light duty production in my business. I have read some earlier posts from some other helpful members about kicking up spindle speeds on the Toolroom Mills from Haas. I have tried these settings changes, and the suggestions worked fine, and I was able to get the 6000 RPM I wanted (to drive a 1/4" end mill, our most used tool). I havn't used any of this in production yet until I get more clarification on one more point. My problem is that after changing the Max RPM parameters & the Frequency Parameters, I do not get an accurate RPM speed on the controller. I believe there is perhaps another Parameter that needs to be altered.
Anyone with a MiniMill out there already has these Parameters, as the Mini Mill has the same Vector Drive with a more Hopped up setting to 6000 RPM.
I would like to find out if there is, infact, another Parameter setting to change in order to correct the RPM reading on my controller. Any help here would be welcomed. My machine is out of Warranty (6 months standard, plus 6 months extended, that I bought)(Not much Warranty), so I am willing to play a little. I understand that upping the RPM will spray more chips & coolant, but we have already addressed this situation with better shrouding and have no problems there. A 30 percent increase in RPM on a 1/4" mill equates to almost a true 30 percent increase in feedrates in thin aluminum, which is where I am going.
Looking forward to some constructive comment.
Regards,
John

Geof will become famous soon enough

I did some posts related to increasing the rpm limit on a MiniMill and listed all the parameters involved. You should be able to find it in the Haas forum or you can scan through my posts. I do not remember the parameter numbers now.

My only concern with this "HOP UP" on the Tool Room series is I don't believe they have an air/oil spindle lube setup like the Mini's and VF series...

I believe they have a sealed, packed, spindle lube setup.....so I would personally be concerned with both heat and loss of lubrication if this is the case...

Although the early VF1's had a packed, sealed spindle lube set up..and they where good to 5000 rpm..but they where designed for it too..I have no idea about the TM series..never been in to one of those..

Just my take on this...take it for what it is worth...but something to think about..

Thanks for your quick replies and concerns. Months ago, I had a confidential talk with a Haas person, who had these remarks when I asked him about the possibilities of a hop-up. He mentioned to me that he believed that the Vector drive on the Mini-Mill was the same as on the TM-2, but de-tuned for lower RPM, and that Haas had put together some Mini-Mills with Grease packed spindles for a special purpose users who could not have oil contamination in their projects. These machines also ran at 6000 RPM. Also, in the earlier posts that I read here, it was indicated that people have been running their machines like that for more than a year or more without trouble. My own TM-2 is being run at 4000 RPM for long durations and the spindle doesn't even get warm.
Anyway, I am willing to give it a try and then later, I can make an update on my findings after doing this for a while.
Another factor for me to consider is that the durations that our mill will be running at 6000 RPM will be 30% shorter than at the 4000 RPM speed because of the savings in time due to higher feed rates, and, the 1/4" end mill cutting Aluminum hardly affects the spindle loading. If anybody has hands on experience with this mod, I would be happy to hear about it.
Thanks,
John
