    haas vf1 "no usb key"

Yesterday I used a usb thumb drive to edit a program with no problems. Today I used same thumdrive and was told "No USB key". Is this a option that needs to be purchased from haas in order to be used? My thumdrive is formatted as a FAT32, and worked fine with this machine previously.
While on this topic has anyone used a male to male usb cord and linked directly to a computer?
    Any help is appreciated!!

Why would you use a USB to edit a program? I only use them to transfer programs between machines and computers. If you edited on the USB, this might be part of the problem. Did you attempt several times? Did you try powering the machine down and restarting it between attempts? I have seen machines that need several seconds from time USB is inserted until the time the control recognizes it.

I as well as yourself only use them to transfer information from the the control to a computer. I am using a flash drive to copy a program from the control to the flash drive, from the flash drive to the computer. Load the program onto software on the computer then back to the flash drive and back to the control.
I did try several times and also shut down the control and repowering. The control was recognizing that there was a usb plugged in but would not let me access it. Of course I also plugged the usb into the computer and made sure that it was working correctly.
Has anyone ever seen "NO USB KEY" as an error message before?
Is it possible to connect the computer straight to the control via a USB connector and skip the use of a flash drive altogether?

doubt you can connect direct thru the usb , but you could transfer thru the rs232 or ethernet (which ever your machine has) . you'll just need a transfer software , most editors like cimco have this option

Connecting direct to a PC through the USB will need to have the PC running the FAT file system (if it will work at all). Most PC's these days no longer run (but can read) FAT file system.

The USB at the CNC is vulnerable to static discharge. Take extra care before inserting the USB drive such as standing on a rubber mat and/or touching the machine to discharge any static electricity. Avoid taking the drive in/out of a pocket, etc.

Once the machine locks up from static discharge, usually you will need to cycle the machine power in order for the USB drive to be seen by the controller.
