Hass Pallet changer not locating origin

    Hi,

I have a HAAS VF-4 with a pallet changer and have been having issues when changing pallets. Pallet #1 when changing does not locate itself properly. It clamps down but when checking the origin it is off in the x direction by a few thousands every time the pallet is swapped out. Pallet #2 has no problems, it locates fine and the origin is in the same place every time.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so what can be done to solve it?

    Thanks

I bet you will find the Z is also off. Check all location hardware for damage, wear, and chips. I bet on the erroneous pallet it is not fully seat on alignment pins before clamping.

Pull the pallet off of the machine and stone the rails it sits on. Stone the rails in the machine as well. Make sure that the locating pin holes are completely clean. Clean off the small wipers on the pallets. Clean off the bottom of the clamping plate where it clamps onto the pallet - remove any embedded chips and stone off.
If the rails are too bad, you can take the pallets off and grind them flat. I've done that once and it worked well.
The biggest thing you can do to keep the pallets accurate is to keep the locating rails clean. Whenever I would pallet change I'd hit feed hold after the first pallet shuttled out and wipe down the rails and locating pins in the machine. We held repeatability easily within .001.
Apparently I don't know anything, so please verify my suggestions with my wife.
