    Hass TM-1P Divide by zero!

    Hello all,
I set a small mold to machine overnight and came in in the morning to find it half done.
The mill stopped roughly 1/3 of the way through the program and came up with the alarm: 178 Divide by zero...in alarm messages it says something about a parameter not being able to be set to zero and tells me to reset the machine then failing that to contact Haas (which I have done but I haven't got ahold of anyone yet). I haven't changed any parameters and I did do a reset but it didn't help.

Its very simple mold - just a series of pockets that are all the same. I generated the G-code with SolidCAM using imachining

It always stops on the same line of code (shown in bold below) but I can't see a reason why it should...

Does anyone know the cause and / or a fix for this problem????
Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I need to get this mold out the door!

    Thanks,
    Nick

First thing I would try is to take the line numbers completely out and see what that does, if anything. I doubt it's your problem, but it jumped out at me since I don't know anybody that uses line numbers in large programs. And when you take the line numbers out, check out how much smaller your program file is on your computer.

The line a CNC control stops on is rarely the line containing the error. CNC controls use look ahead to do calculations before a particular line is actually sent to the motion side of the control. As suggested, get rid of line numbers. Also a suggestion, break the tool path up into many tool paths, that way you do restart from the beginning when an error is encountered.

My back plot software identifies an error on:

    N187966 X11.3565 Y2.2235 I0.0311 J0.0

Either I, J is incorrect for this end point or the previous start point is incorrect for the given I, J.

Thanks for the tips guys... I still haven't solved the problem but I reran the path ommiting the troublesome pocket and it is machining fine. It was just one of many pockets so it shouldnt be a big deal I don't think.

Hopefully Haas gets back to me soon with some info.

Thanks very much for the help.

    Nick

I'm really reaching now, but in the past I've had 3D code post out weird and not run. Occasionally I would be able to just make a very small change to my toolpath (say, decrease the stepover by .0002") and post it that way. Sometimes it actually worked. No matter what anybody says, computers aren't perfect.
