hi, im getting a grinding noise when i run the spindle on the VF4 at low speeds.

Does it go away in high gear? If so, it is probably the transmission.

the machine has a gearbox, so you think it might be that?

Yes, that's why I said to put it in high gear and see if the noise goes away.

It could also be a damaged or loose spindle encoder belt. That is a quick and easy thing to check and repair. If that is it you will also have to change PARA 257 for your spindle orientation.

Is this an "academic exercise" or what? How about letting us know the outcome. A simple put it in high gear and see what happens would tell us volumes.
