VF-2 giving "low transmission oil pressure" warning

I tried adding oil to the gearbox, but it didn't take much and didn't stop the warnings.

Anyone had experience with this? Do I need a new pump?

If your pump is moving oil it should be fine. There is a pressure switch mounted close to the pump and sometimes they go bad. Simple way to check is TEMPORARILY jumper switch to see if alarm goes away.

Check the rubber coupling between the pump and motor they are a consumable.

As others have already said, check to make sure the pump is pushing oil. You can easily see the oil moving in the lines while the spindle is running. If it is not pumping but the motor is running, then it is probably the pump/motor coupling. These get brittle and break apart. McMaster has them for under $2 or you dealer should have them if you are in a jam. McMaster P/N: 6428K51

If it is pumping oil, you can check the pressure switch in diagnostics. Look for Low Trans Oil Press. When spindle is running it should be a 1. Make sure it toggles between 1 and 0. If it does not, then replace the switch.

    Good luck!

I had the same problem a couple years ago. The rubber coupling was the problem. Nice to see the McMaster Carr part number. I didn't know where to look and needed the machine to run, so I called Haas. Coupling was $12-15 & the next day plane ride was more.

It was indeed the coupling, as suggested, that had come apart. Ordered the McMaster Carr part number and it has been working fine ever since.

    Thanks again for the pointers!

    Thumbs up

    Gentleman: new to the site.
I had this alarm on our VF2 and after reading this forum, I took off the motor to find the coupling intact, so, I took off the motor and tried to spin the shaft, was hard to rotate, so, I tested it in a receptical as it was 110v anyway. would not work. I then called the Haas distributor in our area and after finding out that I had to purchase the whole pump/motor assembly for $450.00, I decided to call the motor OEM (Acklands) in Ontario. they had to cross the old part # for me as it was discontinued. old # is "Dayton 9HG41" and new # is "Dayton 3M363D" for $110.00. now the new motor is 2.5A FLA where the old one was 1.5A but at such a low amperage to start with it has not impacted anything. I had to cut the shaft length down abit on the new motor and add nuts under the flange to stand it off because the studs were shorter, but it works great

Glad it worked out for you.
