    "No X LIMIT"

What is going on with my machine... Right in the middle of a cut, it stoppes and displays "NO X LIMIT" in the lower left of screen, and the machine has to be rezeroed before continuing... It just started today, it did it once in the morning then progressed thru the day to about every 30 min,, until we had to quit... It seems to be loosing the X ZERO. and I have to rezero the X before going on.... After working with it for a while now it will show a 145 alarm...
I have been working with Hass machine for 10 years and have never seen this one... Any Ideas??
    Thanks in advance

If the machine is fairly new with the proximity sensors not microswitches for the homing switch it could be a small chip sticking to the sensor.

there were no alarms on screen, I will look into it and come back... For the moment the only alarm message is "NO X LIMIT"..... I guess I should have said that this all takes place in the middle of a cut... So it goes like this... Machine is zeroed in the morning and work starts... With no warning, in the middle of a cut the machine will stop and in the lower left of screen displayed is "No X LIMIT" and the machine need the X ZEROED before it will move....
    Thanks

I don't know that much about Haas, but it does not seem to be a switch problem if the error occurs during normal operation and will re-zero OK right after the message?
It sound almost like the machine loses its reference?
Does it happen in the same point of the program, or at the same physical location of the X axis?

According to the Haas alarm list, the likeliest candidate IS the switch,

They must monitor the state of the switch other than when homing, which is unusual?

I think the sensor is monitored. I have had similar occurences on both lathes and mills involving axis sensors and also tool changer position sensors and have solved them just by blowing stuff off the front of the sensor.

Sounds like a bad switch cable. If you look under the front Y-Axis way cover, there are several cables that move back and forth with the Y-Axis. Most likely the switch cable has a break in it. In certain positions there is enough of a contact for it to work then when it flexes to a certain spot it opens the circuit causing the loss of home switch.

Inspect ALL of the cables under the front y-axis way cover as they are probably stiff and brittle. If this is the case, be prepared to swap out the motor/encoder cable as well. A short in the motor cable can cause thousands of $$$.

    Good luck!
