Bent my Y axis homing flag, Now I have a question...

So sometime during yesterday's run, chips blocked the tiny slit in the homing prox cover and bent the rinky-dink homing flag on my TM3. When I finally figured that out (was fighting a y servo error too large error at startup), I bent it straight until in entered the slit again. When I re-probed the part, the Y axis offset had changed location by about .200" . How much over-stroke do you guys think these machines are capable of in any given direction before you start getting into a situation where you are binding the ballscrews or something? It is running fine, but I cant help but wonder how much change in Y home position is too much. Thanks.

If it completes the home cycle without any alarms, then basically you are fine. With the display on the position screen that shows distance to go, home the axis and read the dist to go. Rule of thumb is it should be around .120".

If it is way off and it bothers you, adjust the grid offset parameter for that axis until it results in the .120" @ dist to go after homing.

Don't forget to reset Y-axis offsets again when done.

    Good luck.

The "dist to go" on the Y axis after homing is reading .1933" rather than your "rule of thumb .120". What does this mean?
I am not quite sure what this "dist to go" means...

It means you are 0.0733 off nominal. Can you live with that?

Once the home switch is triggered, the machine backs off of the switch and establishes a zero position. The distance to go is not a direct correlation but rather just something visible to reference.

You can run it as is without worries.
