    laptop communication with haas

We just bought a VM mold maker 2 and were just wondering what was the best way to transfer files from the laptop with windows7 to the controller. We are just using a usb memory stick now and were wondering what the best options would be.

There are port emulators out there. I bought one off of eBay for a few dollars, but have not used it yet. Plugs into a USB port and has a 9 pin serial port on the other end.

All new Haas machines have an optional ENET networking feature. Just hook it up to your network and setup a Shared Folder. You can transfer both ways from either the PC or control end.

    How-To: ENET | Haas
    Thanks,

Are you saying that Ethernet is now a standard option?

Sorry, it's really early here. No, ENET is not standard it is an option.

Thanks everyone for your help. Ken our machine has the Enet option so I am going to pick up a cable and try it out.

    Thanks again for the help!

As you found, ethernet is the best option, but if someone else has the same problem and cant solve it with ethernet, you will likely find that the newer generation of cheap consumer grade usb serial ports don't always work as advertised.

The solution that I use for serial communications from laptop(s) without a serial port to a Haas without ethernet is a ConnectBlue industrial bluetooth to serial port adapter. They are rugged and replicate the spec exactly for reliable communication to the mill. Its permanently mounted to my mill and powers on when the mill powers on. They can also be found used on eBay for less than $50US.
