1X10 Extruded aluminum 6061

I have a project that I'm using 1x10 extruded and its warped across the 10" surface
.050" at the center, is this normal? What really sucks is the part is designed and programmed.

You can pretty much see the gap here between the Starret level and the material top.

Geof will become famous soon enough

This is warped before machining? What happens when you machine it?

You should check with your supplier what the specs are regarding flatness, straightness and size tolerances. Fifty thou over ten inches is a bit much but you might find that it is actually within specs.

Wide flat bar is famous for that. Get your material cut out of 1" T6511 plate and that problem will go away. The supplier I use most for aluminum is always within a few percent price wise between large flat bar and plate that they cut on their CNC plate saw.

I checked, they claim it's within spec. Live and learn I guess, I've never purchased this size material before. Luckily this part can be adjusted down to 7/8", a little reprogramming and I'm good to go.

Flat bar will do that, all sizes.
always by flat bar oversized and face it. especially on small thin parts.
or buy the stuff matts talking about.
7-12" wide will be concaved on one side and convext on the other. under 6" is usually just a few thou.

Best to design with T&J plate unless you need the strength.

Tool and Jig plate.

Usually cast. MIC-6 is one variety.

Ive cut alot of mic 6 if the part your cutting is for anything that has vibration I wouldnt recomend it, unless all your corners have very large rad's. Ive had mic6 plate break for parts used in production of milling machines( brackets) after extended hours of use, The customer changed all his parts after that.
