VF2SS Error 234 Spindle Cable Fault

I have been using this forum as a resource for years. Now I need some help!

I was running parts today when out of the nowhere the spindle shuts down, servos shut off and I get an alarm I have not seen yet.

ALARM 234 SPINDLE CABLE FAULT
"Spindle encoder is not recieving valid differential signals"

I either have a problem with the cable or the spindle encoder.

I would check the cable but the real issue is that I can not jog any of the AXIS.

The error has locked out the servos and I can't figure out how to move the Z axis up to the home position.

The spindle shut off in the work piece. the bolts on the top of the Z axis that I need to remove in order to access the Spindle motor and cables are blocked by the tool changer becasue the Z is soo close to the table.

Any ideas how I might be able to move the Z axis up in order to gain access to the top panel bolts?

Mike

You didn't say whether the servos can be turned back on, but if they can, you can go to parameters settings and turn #53 - "Jog w/o Zero Return" on. Then you can jog the z axis without a homing. Of course you must be careful, as you can hit physical limits and damage the machine, but you know about how far they can be moved.

Hope this works, if not give us additional information. Hope you find the problem.

Mike

Unfortunately I can not turn the servos on. The error needs to be cleared first.

I spoke to a service tech last night and he tells me I should be able to turn off the cable test feature, restart and then I should have servo control.

The problem is the cable test parameter is missing from my parameter settings.

I am dead in the water unless I can get the Z-Axis up far enough to get to the encoder cable

Just a thought, I have not done this and have no idea if it's dangerous for the machine or not, but if there servos are off, can you simply use a floor jack or bottle jack to raise the head?

you can get to the spindle encoder from the top. Take your spindle fan off and just plug in a new spindle encoder.

Do not ever try this under any circumstances.
Never ever.
