| Normally I would plug an overflow port, with a breather plug to keep dirt out. Something like this: Breather vents for gear cases, breather plugs and filters

| The drain plug sits almost flush with the tank itself. The over flow tube sticks down a little and the tube is trimmed at an angle. To answer the original question; no, you do not plug the overflow tube. It is as Machineit said, fill until it comes out the overflow tube then stop. That simple. |
