Graphics locking up VF2

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem. Every once in a while when I write a program and run the graphics it locks the machine up. The graphics get about half way through the program and it just stops. It says "running" "linear" and it won't do anything. I have tried pushing RESET and all it does is make a long beep. I tried hitting the E-stop then RESET and it is still locked up. I tried other buttons and all it does is give me a long beep. To get it working again I have to shut the machine off and power up agian. After that it works fine and the graphics run the entire program without any problems. It has done this twice in the last three weeks.

Thank,
Jim W H

Check for a feed rate that is missing a decimal point. An F5. is 5 inches per minute, but F5 equals about F.0005. It needs the decimal point. It could be that it locks your machine up, but don't know.

Thanks for the reply Mike. It's not the program because after the machine is shut off and powered back up the graphics run without any changes to the program.

Thanks,

Geof will become famous soon enough

I have had this happen a few times and it seems to be when I push something like Single Block or Optional stop while the Graphics is running. The funniest I had was when it kept moving the imaginary X axis and the display reached several hundred inches before I turned the main power off. Everything was fine once I powered up again, at least until the next time it happens.

I just chock things like this up to poor processing power. It seems like sometimes I get going too fast for the control when switching modes/screens and I have to wait for the thing to un**** itself, and sometimes it takes a restart. Just like a computer when it's on its death bed. It is very frustrating to me to have this very expensive machine with the computing power of an early nineties PC, but it works most of the time.

Well, it is a computer after all. They can be frustrating, but are indispensable.

Sounds like software, so call your HFO and ask about any updates. Typically, software problems were usually covered even outside the warranty period.

I have not had this situation come up, but I have heard that software problems with graphics did not have the same courtesy, so pick your words carefully when describing the problem. Do you have any other problems with software when running parts? Does it lock up when running actual program? Now is the time to air these concerns.

Good luck!

Our SL-20 would occasionally lock up with an IO error. I cannot remember the exact error code at the moment.

We had a Haas tech come out for a different issue, and we mentioned this problem to him. He reseated all the chips in their sockets, and the problem went away.

Back when I did Dell tech support, many strange computer problems could be solved by this same method. Disconnect and reconnect every electrical connector, then start it back up.

Intermittent issues are often due to dodgy electrical connections. Reseating the connection scrapes a bit of metal off of the connector and gives it a good connection again.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Haas tech. I don't know what I'm talking about. If you destroy your machine, it's your own fault for trusting me.

There are no other software or graphics problems and the program never locks up the machine when running parts. Once I shut it down and power back up the graphics run the same program without any problems and without any changes to the program.

Thanks,

Understood, but it's still worth considering. Intermittent connections can cause all sorts of strange behavior patterns.

Cheers,
Frederic

I should also mention that it never gives an alarm or error code of any kind.
