New VF4 Door Locks

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
We just recieved a new 2011 VF4 . Has anyone figured out how to bypass the new door locks? These things are a serious pain in the rear. I need to run this machine with the doors open on some applications ( 20 sec. cycle times). There is no setting #51 anywhere in the settings in the control ( I've looked at every page in the control).
By the way, I do not care what osha or any other government agency says- they are not running my machine !!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Garfish

I'm not sure how this will work if they have removed setting 51, but this is what we do with our 2010 mill (it does have setting 51, although it does nothing) btw the 2010 lathes are the same.
First hit the e-stop. Turn off setting 7 (parameter lock), now you can change setting 586 (door open RPM). Hopefully the machine won't care at this point. It works on our 2010 machines but who knows with the newer ones.

The other option is to tape a coin over the door's proximity switch. You can't permanently fool the switch though, since you must cycle the door before homing the machine, but at least with tape you can peel it off then stick it back on.

Door Locks

YOu can run with the door open only if the Setup/Run key is in the Setup position and you hold down the Cycle-Start button. The maximum rapid and spindle speeds are also reduced.

New Haas VF4 Door Locks

Thanks for you replies, But the door locks- reduced rapid and spindle speed HAS TO GO . I need to know how to Disable the locks at least.

I'm just about ready to return this machine to Haas (and tell them where to put it) and buy an older one that that does not have this useless saftey b.s. on it. If someone does not know how to run a mill safely they shoud not be in the machine shop to begin with.

In the past I've tried scrolling through the settings pages to find things(unsuccessfully) but have found that if you hit the settings button, type '51' then press the down arrow, it should jump to it

New VF4 Door Locks

There is no parameter #51 in the control. >

I guess Haas figures we all do not know: not to put our digits where they do not belong. They must have gotten sued or something, by some idiot that had no clue how to run a mill and lost some flesh. So the saftey nazi's nurfed the machines so "no one can get hurt". LOL

Now it takes me twice as long to setup this bloody machine, and can't even deck a part without the doors being closed. God help us, we are totally helpless and need big brother to keep us safe.

SETTING 51 is the door hold over-ride. In my 2003-2006 machines, setting 51 would allow full operation with the door open. On my 2010 machines it did nothing to ease set up. I have a friend that used to be a HAAS tech and all of a sudden, setting 51 works like it should on the new machines. I'm sure he'll tell me what he did, but I don't know the rules about posting that info here.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it allows 'full operation' when a tool change occurs it does the change at 25% with the doors open, but that's fine by me. we had the locking device on the tool arm fail during a 100% speed tool change, and the tool was thrown at the door.

It will allow a 100% tool change in this condition, I'm not a fan of that so I set rapids to 25% when the door is open and I'm doing setup. The guy was just here and I asked him what he did and he showed me in the parameters. Under the 'common' tab look for a page with Common SW1 (parameter 57:16)....at the bottom of that page the 'Door Stop Spindle' is set to '0' and setting 51 will now work like you are used to. Follow the correct estop/parameter lock procedure while changing this over.

Prior to this I was sticking pieces in the door locks to trigger the prox sensors, the downside is the high intensity lighting shuts off. Now I have light and I can insert and measure tools, and run my programs carefully.

Thank You for your reply ,
This machine in a 2011 VF4, and of course there is no # 51 or " Door Stop Spindle" parameter to change. Haas has either removed the settings or hidden them from us.

Interesting, my VF4SS and VF2SS were late 2010 machines and it is there. Is there a setting 51 even??
