It's nice and simple, just a modification to an existing part but I'm stoked none the less. Started with the anodized part in the fore ground. ![]() I cut most of this at 100% feedrate until i had the guts to bump it up. How high will this go? Is there a rule of thumb to follow when speeding it up?

| Well, it's been a long road but congratulations on your first part. The first is always the best one. You ran it at 100% feed or 10% feed rate? How fast it can go is dependent upon what setting you have set in CAM and your machines top feed rate. If your feed rate is say set to 12ipm in CAM then 100% feed rate would be 12ipm so 200% is 24ipm. If it is 60ipm then it can be pretty significant as you increase the feed at the control. Don't get cocky with it, bad things can happen blindingly fast. Double check your work height and tool height and keep rapids at 5% until your tool path and settings have proved themselves. After a while you will begin to have greater faith in the software and your own abilities. |

Congratulations!! And down boy down; my experience has been that getting stoked is often followed by fragments of tools flying around inside the machine.

Hi Luke, Nice to see the chips. I know you did a nice job on the machine tool prep and that should help you in the long run as it pertains to problems. You have a really nice machine and I know you will enjoy using it. Keep the pictures and videos coming. John

Yeah although I don't go there much, same with automags.org. I mostly stick to pbn lately. I'm the guy from zdspb.com if you've ever been there. |
