I need some advice on my PCool. Right now my current post for my cam has the PCool move into position when it starts feeding. The problem with this is that often I will have a chuck with a drill in it... well the PCool does not orient right away so when the tool is turned on at the spindle change position and the coolant sprays all over the place. Thanks. Tim |

| Don't know your post, but check to make sure the coolant is being turned off before the tool change. If is not, it will turn off during the change but immediately come back on upon completion and is messy. So look for that M09 before the tool change. If the program is being posted by a cadcam system make sure that it has the proper code to turn the coolant off. Good luck---Mike

| The post has nothing to do with the P-cool. The machine orients the P-cool when the coolant is activated. The only way to have the P-cool orient before cutting would be to add a dwell to your post, right after the Coolant-on line. Probably more trouble than it's worth. I just point the fixed nozzles in the general direction and let them do the job until the P-cool catches up.

Hey thanks. With the open TM2 its not the problem of the coolant getting to the work but the coolant spraying all over the room when the pcool is aimed high. Tim |

| Yeah - I was going to be jealous that your post puts out the coolant nozzle position...I figured you had a pretty cool macro built for that since I've never seen a code for it. Just make sure that your M9 is called before the line that has the M6 on it - so the coolant is good and off before it moves home. Then make sure that your M8 is called on a line that gets your spindle down a ways from home. As long as it comes on quickly, you can normally call it on your G43 H7 Z?? M8 line. That way the coolant comes on after the spindle has moved down from home to wherever you like to start the -Z- at.

| Here is an article on the Haas @ Your Service Blog: Haas Machining Centers: Using the Programmable Coolant Nozzle | Haas Also, the pcool should adjust position on the G43 line. If you command the M08 after the G43, the pcool should be in position before it turns on.

Also the P-cool location is not changed when the coolant is activated, it is changed when the tool is changed with the MO6 and the offset is called up. It will adjust even if you never put in an MO8. Cheers all---Mike

| Wow, usually everyone is in agreement with their advice, but it's all over the place on this topic! I wonder if the way the Pcool works is dependent on software version? On my '07, M8 and M9 have NOTHING to do with when the Pcool positions. It positions when G43 Hhh is called, no sooner, no later. To prove this, type G43 Hhh in MDI and the Pcool should move when cycle start is pressed. Here's how my post is set up: M6 T1 M3 S12000 G43 H1 M8 G0 X0. Y0. Z.25 -------------------- G0 Z.25 G20 G40 G80 G90 M6 T2 ETC. Notice no M9? The way that code runs is the Pcool is moving to position DURING the first axis moves so, generally, it's in position before the first cut is taken.
M6 T1 M3 S12000 #3401=6 (Pcool position set to 6 for T1) G43 H1 M8 Etc. Or if you'd like to automate it a bit: IF[#2001 GT 3. LT 3.6] THEN #3401 = 4 This writes 4 to T1 pcool position if the measured tool length is between 3.0 and 3.6. |
