Has Techs, Alarm 253 ELECTRONICS OVERHEAT

Hey all,

I have been getting this alarm since I bought the machine, a 1996 VF-2. It is not hot in the cabinet, in fact it happens most often when the machine is cold. Ya, it does get cold/cool in S. Florida sometimes, a couple of freezes this year.

I researched it some and found that the sensor is located on the main board. It has obviously failed and I might get 50 in one day or zero depending on how the machine feels. Mainly affects during jogging or single blocking a program.

I need to find out how to disable this warning, so that it does not throw an alarm.

253 ELECTRONICS OVERHEAT - The control box temperature has exceeded 140° F (60° C). This can be caused by an electronics problem, high room temperature, or clogged air filter.

I would appreciate your assistance.

Cheers,

Mike

Edit: Sorry for not catching my misspelling in the title, but now it won't let me spell Haas correctly.

253 ELECTRONICS OVERHEAT

Hello,

I believe that someone gave you some good advise by telling you to check the power supply. The low volt power supply distributes both +12 and -12 volts. Both of these need to be checked. 11.95 volts might actually be far enough out of range to cause a problem. The voltage might also be fluctuating throughout the day. If this machine has the old computer style low volt power supply (it is shaped like a box), it can be updated with a kit that Haas has available which has the new style power supply, cables, and an adapter plate.
I have heard of coolant float sensors shorting out and causing this problem. If your machine has a coolant float sensor, you can run the machine without it for a while and see if that helps.
It is best to leave the replacement of any boards in the cabinet, such as the main processor or the mocon to your Haas dealer. They provide a warranty for all parts they install. They cannot warranty parts that are installed by the user.
I hope this helps get you closer to solving the problem.

Funny you find this now, as I posted this 7 months ago. I got it answered and taken care in another post today thanks. I was thinking of updating the power supply anyway, so may yet.

Mike
