I have never owned cnc equipment and am currently contemplating the purchase of a TL-3 and Tm-3p Haas. The question about the mill if it can make helical gears via the hobbing process with a fourth axis and what additional options i would require on the mill to do said. The question on the lathe is what exactly is a (bolt on style turret, 8 stations) and why is this option so expensive and what are the must have options for these equipment. |

| Yes, a Haas can machine a helical gear, you need only purchase the rotary and the fourth axis. A TL-3 has three tooling options: Quick-Change Tool Post, 8 station BOT Turret, or 3rd party system. The BOT Turret (picture attached) is a very good option because it allows you to run parts without constantly manually changing tools.

| I don't think you can do a pure hobbing process with a Haas mill. You could cut a gear but, be clear that I don't think you can make it behave like a true hobber (cutting progressively deeper while continuously rotating). Why aren't you farming out the production of these gears to a company that specializes in gears? Just curious.
