Hi, I'm on my fourth week of working on a VF-7, but have a lot of experience on Japanese mills (Yasnac). Anyway, we use a dial toolsetter off of the table to set our tool lengths, and an electronic edgefinder to touch off our parts. X,Y is simple enough, I was wondering if there was a way that I could simply use the edgefinder to set my Z as well if I have a set tool length for it. Right now I am having to pull out the calculator and figure out the difference between the top of my part and the zero of the toolsetter. Hope this isn't too confusing. My previouse experience was using our Nikken edgefinder to get X,Y,Z. Thanks for any advice |

| If you set your tools that way you can just touch off the top of the part with any tool and set your Z. There is a setting that has to be enabled. "G54 uses tool offset" or something like that. If nobody post the setting number by the am I will post as soon as I get to my machine. |

| Setting 64 influences the tool offset, not the other way around. You can subtract the tool length in the control using a program with macro statements or manually. To do this manually; do the part zero set, then go back to that offset and type in the tool length and press write/enter.
