strange hi low gear change solenoid malfunction

We bought a 92 VF-1 fixer upper a few months back with a bad gear box. When we got the machine, the top of the gear change solenoid was disconnected by the previous owner. We found that gear changes would work only if either the top or the bottom of the solenoid was disconnected. High to low or low to high would work this way depending on which side of solenoid was disconnected. Hooking up both wires resulted in no programmable gear changes at all.

Over the last few months we have replaced the gear box, the IO board, the solenoid cable (33-0880A) as well as the hi lo gear change solenoid and still can not hook up top and bottom of solenoid simultaneously with any success. Haas HFO wants to come in for service call at this point and start by replacing entire solenoid manifold assembly. I am a little skeptical that this will solve the problem.

Any suggestions?

Note- I spoke to Carlos at Reytech Machine 845-521-6052 www.reytechmachine.com today and he helped me figure out that the top and bottom wires of the solenoid were reversed. Switching out the wires solved the problem. The strange thing was that with the wire reversed I could change gears at all. Problem solved.
