SR 100 dripfeed issue

Hi all...
Just getting our new Haas SR100 up and running. Anyone out there with any experience with drip-feed on this machine? We're having some com errors for our larger programs, at random points in the data stream. I'm thinking it's noise, but ???

RS232 Cable is shielded and 25' long, and even get random data errors at very low data rates.

Anybody have any suggestions on which comm settings to use? We've tried various combinations, but all have ended in some degree of *failure* thus far.

-Matt

Is the shield connected to pin 1 on the CNC end?

Thanks for that - the problem apparently was in the settings between the sr 100 and ONEcnc, null modem was required and other things (un-clarified in the haas manual), plus ironically, low speed data rates don't work - but 115.2k does - and is quite reliable.

I had a problem with a 10 HP air compressor being on the same panel as the VF-3. When it kicked in it would pull just enough current to screw up the data transfer. It would throw in random codes. Most of the time the machine would error out, but a couple times it crashed or fed the tool right thru a part.
If the probs reoccur, you could run large programs from a jump drive too.

Hi Pondo -
The haas doc's are not clear (to say the least), on drip-feeding through the serial port, but I did get that to work - seems reasonably bullet-proof now.

Drip-feeding from the USB port does not seem to be an option - it only looks like you can copy the file into the SR100 memory, and then run it from there.

Imagine...buying a machine like this for all those $$$, and it comes with 1Meg of ram. 1Meg of ram. A whopping 1Meg of ram.

Matt, you should be able to run a program from the USB...that's the only way I do it usually. What were you doing when you tried and it didn't work?

They just need to make the 16 Meg "option" worth getting.

You definitely can run a program from the USB port. It didn't work too good for me because of the 3D surfacing programs I was running though. I ran a couple on a demo machine at the HFO before I bought my Minimill and the points were too fine for the transfer to keep up. Data starvation. Same prob I had with the RS232 line on my old machine. I just sprung for the 16 Meg and it's plenty big for my programs. I was running @6K rpm, 200 IPM finishing the surface of a domed part, if I ran it slower it could keep up.
Give it a try and see if it works for you. If it does then you now have 2-3 gig of ram.
