| The new Haas VF-2 has a 55 gallon tank and I'm pretty sure the 2007 is the same. Also you should not be mixing your coolant in the tank. I know that everyone does it this way but if you read the side of the coolant bucket. It says to mix it slowly into a smaller container whiles stirring the water then poor it into the tank. You are making an emulsification, sort of like making mayonnaise the old fashion way. This is quite a pain but your coolant will last longer. Best regards. Mike. |

| Ryan, I didn't know that! thanks for the heads up. Just shows you, you're never too old to learn something! Pretty logical when you think they've added fluorine to tap water. Thanks!

| Ummmm, 'normal' water and distilled water are the same with regards to rust. Whether or not the water is fluorinated or chlorinated is pretty much irrelevant because the fluorine or chlorine levels are so low. The difference between normal water and distilled is that some domestic water supplies have calcium and magnesium, they are 'hard'. These ions interfere with the coolant forming a proper emulsion but they are not present in a high enough concentration to have any effect on rusting.

| While Geof is correct in his assesment, the problem comes from the accumulation of these hard deposits. Over time these hard deposits will accumulate in the tank mostly due to water evaporation and the machining process itself. Once these levels get to high, they inhibit proper emulsification and then the rusting process can start. DI and RO water will significantly prolong the life of your coolant and keep it from going rancid longer also. If you have either DI or RO water available I would suggest using it. To be certain, check with a dedicated coolant distributor to find the best solution for your needs. Good luck. |
