The last few months I have been getting z axis drive errors(#163) and Calibration errors(#986) when ONLY starting(powering up) the machine in the morning. to fix it I have to shut off machine start up machine many times. I noticed a few times if I turn the main breaker off and restart it it works right away. Lately its happening more and more like almost every day. Anyone else getting these errors? its a 2009 I still have warrenty left so not worried about it, otherwise the machine has been great this one just bothers me a tad cause the warrenty is almost up and I dont know if this is a normal thing or not. | Never had them. 163 is Z servo over current but 986 is not in my book. Because they can be 'fixed' by a power down I suspect when you get Haas in you will find it is a low voltage power supply going wonky.

| If the main breaker is left on( its always on) and the machine is just turned off by the red power button on the control panel does the machine get power to the power supply? if so I would suspect that, reason being if I turn the main breaker off in the back of the machine the error doesnt pop up anymore for that day. Maybe a over heat on the power supply while the control panel power is off? ( I will have to go check the cooling fan now .) Its not always "FIXED" when I turn the control panel off switch off. However the few times I turned the main breaker off ( when having the problem) in the back of the machine it "Always" seems to fix the problem right away. when it first started the errors went away when turning the control panel power off, but the more time goes on it takes 10-20 tries to get the alarms to go away. | There are some power supplies that are on even when the machine is off, i.e. the power to them bypasses the main contactor controlled by the front panel buttons. You will probably never find the actual detail of the malfunction because it will be a matter of replacing the entire power supply, but in the past I have had equipment play tricks like this and it was sometimes due to a faulty capacitor that just got warm and leaked.

| From what you have said about the age of this machine - I think you will almost definately have 'smart amplifiers'. Smart amplifiers do not use a Low Voltage Power supply. They generate the low voltage themselves from the dc buss. The 986 calibration failed alarm indicates either a faulty smart amp or a faulty Mocon PCB. I would suggest you get your HFO in to fix it, especially as its still under warranty. Hope this helps |
