Newbie- spindle repair ??

how much would it cost to rebuild a VF-1 spindle? Probably just needs new bearings, but not sure yet. I have to go take a look at the machine. Got a deal i cant pass up. (unless its gonna cost to much to fix it.)

JUST PUT A NEW SPINDAL IN A VF4SS 2004 MODEL, WASNT TOOL BAD, SPINDAL IS A CARTRIGE, OIL LINE ON THE BACK WAS TOUGH BUT THE REST WAS PRETTY EASY , HAAS SELLS REPLACEMENT FOR ABOUT $7000.00 BUT THEY GIVE YOU BACK HALF FOR THE CORE , SO YOUR IN TO IT ABOUT $3500.00

keep in mind this is a 1992 machine with a serial number in the 1800 range

spindle cartridges may have been redesigned since then and that machine may require a special spindle at a special price if you know what i mean.

best to contact haas for an accurate quote as they will be the one replacing and charging for this service.

WELL IF YOU ARE PRETTY MECHACIALY INCLINED THEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDEL IT GET BEARINGS ANY WEAR UNLESS HAAS HAS SPECIAL BEARING

i looked at the machine JC is asking about,this was one of the first vf1 machines built by haas.

back then they did not have chip augers there were ports on each side in the front where you could use a shovel to remove the chips.

i placed my hand on the spindle and rotated back and forth,the spindle would move a half a turn in either direction and you could feel it clunking against a gear or something.


just mentioning because it could cost more to repair than a similiar machine coming from an 2004 era.

sounds like maybe the orientation shot pin is not fully releasing.
