G83 using I,J,K for Reduced Peck Cycle

Quick question on Reduced Peck Cycle.

# 56 drill 3/4" deep in 6061.

This is the only one that I got to work however, you will see that it takes forever.
S6000
G98 G83 Z-.76 R.1 I.01 J.001 K.001 F3.

I have been breaking drills off in longer I's. I am wondering if the trick is to use a longer Peck with a very low Feed Rate. This is the first time I have used the Reduced Peck Cycle and I see that within ten pecks I have reduced the Peck to 0.001". Any general pointers on how to do this better?

You might try the G73 cycle

Something like G73 Z-.76 R.1 F3. Q.005 K.02

I think thats right but I cant remember exactly.

This should peck .005 per peck, and every .02 the drill will return to the R plane to eject chips.

Good luck.

G98 G83 Z-.76 R.1 I.01 J.001 K.001 F3.

What you are telling the control is drill the first peck .01", then reduce each subsequent peck by .001" until you get to a minimum peck depth of .001, then keep doing that until the total Z depth is reached. Your figures are ultra conservative. You want enough feedrate to make a chip spiral up the drill flute. This fast travelling chip will help the flutes clear when the retraction occurs.

I'd probably try something like this in aluminum:
S6000
G98 G83 Z-.76 R.1 I.075 J.025 K.025 F7.

What Dougtyler wrote would also be worth a shot.

Spot drill the start position so the drill does not walk.
