Does anyone, "place a dab of grease on the V-flange of tools", as the monthly maintenance schedule says? I've only made sure that the tools are clean and lightly oiled overall before installing. No other machine I've run called for that. Wouldn't it attract chips? |

| I'm curious if this is something I should consider for the v flanges? One of my concerns is corrosion of the spindle and tools. Tim |

| The Haas manual said that about the V-flange. Wouldn't have anything to do with sticking in the spindle, only with the tool change arm. Dry lube huh? I haven't tried that. Do you like it? Haven't had sticking except after heavy cutting (not very often- small tools and small parts). |

I have tried the dry lube on a few things....I like it where you have dust and you do not want the dust to stick to the grease or oil. Tim |

| OK, the boss called the HFO. He spoke to somebody in service (don't know who). That guy said that the intent is to grease the spring loaded finger on the tool changer, not the tool holder as the manual seems to say. "place a dab of grease on the V-flange of tools" (My emphasis) This makes sense to me as I have had to take apart fingers on a Matsuura due to corrosion. So, that is what I will do unless one of the Haas techs correct me here. |

| Yes, the directions from your HFO are correct. The manual is very poorly worded, misleading, outright impractical or all of the above regarding greasing the v-flange. That said, I believe the intent was to grease the v-flange of the pull stud and not the v-flange of the body for the tool changer. Regardless, go easy with the grease because as everyone knows chips still find their way inside the taper. Also, clean both tapers with the WD-40 and Scotch Brite as mentioned earlier in the post. Happy machining all!! |

Greetings I have proved it many times over, if a tool is sticking, 9 out of 10 times it has black oxide on the taper. Scotch Brite it off and you will be good to go. Hope this helps. Frank |
