Just joined up, looking forward to using this site. Manual machinist for 10 years and have just bought a Haas TL-3B. Slowly learning the ropes.
Run small 2 man machining and fabrication shop in Welshpool, Western Australia.
This new lathe is great and well suited to our field of work (oil field, drilling rig maintenance and modifications), however the tailstock is very heavy to move and it leaks coolant around the rear of the lathe. IPS handy but I am training myself to write programmes from scratch.

Idk if you were looking for advice or not but I'm also new to the CNC game. I'm running a TL-1 and was able to become IPS friendly rather quickly. When IPS spits out code to MDI I've found it helpful to just go through n read the code, it's helped me learn to understand what's going on and to quickly alter the code if I need to make modifications. I'm sure you've been told this, but run your programs in Settings/Graphics with Single Block on and the Program being displayed (Press F4) before doing operations to help you understand what's going on. Thanks JWB, that F4 trick in graphics is a ripper! Not that I have used other controllers but the Haas seems pretty user friendly. Have just discovered today that the tool post is multi positional on the carriage. Good for the large swing jobs. I hear those TL-1 machines are quite popular. These Haas machines are slowly making there way through oz.
