    Incremental tapping in MDI on a TL-2

    Quite often I tap on a mill using incremental. Drill the hole using jog, then position the tap a little distance above the hole and in MDI program M03 S1000; G91 G84 Z-0.5 F62.5 for a 3/8"-16 thread.

    Today I tried what I thought would be the equivalent on my TL-2. Drill the hole using jog, then position the tap a little distance away from the hole and in MDI program M03 S1000; G84 W-0.5 F0.0625. Hit cycle start and the machine starts moving in a Z positive direction.

    What am I doing wrong?

    tapping

    just a though
    when you use G91 on the mill that is model so your R would usmue 0 buy default no movement in incermental but on the late W is nonmodel maybe your machine is trying to move to zero which I think would be defult for your R vaule ?

    chucker;

    That sounds like it should work, I will try it later today or tomorrow.

    Nope, didn't work.

    I guess the G84 does not recognise a W value; all that happens is the spindle starts, reverses and stops and then the machine starts heading toward whatever number is in the R value using machine coordinates.

    But I faked around it; position the tap, pull up the MACH POSIT display, enter the Z position for the R value and add the clearance distance and thread depth to this for the Z value.
