cool site! this is my first post, woo-hoo. figures a newbie is trying to figure out how to do something unsafe huh? on a model SL30 how do i get the door override to work? i just started a new job today, and already i can tell this is gonna drive me bonkers. ive been setting up and operating for years, and ive somehow been lucky enough to avoid this situation till now. the machine is only a couple months old, my new supervisor said he would be tickled if i could figure it out. |

| ya, i know how to use the setting if the correct parameter is enabled. thats the problem. i can turn the override on, but it doesnt work. i dont know which parameter to switch, and even if i did, the parameters are locked. my supervisor said he asked the guy who installed the machine to swith the parameter on and he wouldnt do it. at my last job, the owner bought a brand new TL1. i was there when it was installed and we asked him to do the same and he was willing. i wish he would have went one step farther and showed me how to switch parameters. i know how to get to the parameters page, thats easy. and obviously you either switch the 0 to a 1, or 1 to a 0. i would assume the parameter would be "front door"??? but the parameters are locked. thanks for the input! |

You need to turn off Setting 7 Parameter Lock. Then you may need to change the Parameters for Door Stop Spindle and Max Spindle Speed Door Open. I am not going to tell you any more; if you were in my shop and changed Setting 51 you would be a prime candidate for no longer being in my shop, safety features are there for a reason.

Go to settings page, go to setting 7 and turn parameter lock of and hit write, then goto setting 51 turn the override on and hit write, then go back to setting 7 and turn parameter lock back on. |

| thanks for all the input guys! i totally understand safety features are there for a reason, thats for sure. ive been setting up and operating CNCs for about 7 years and ive still got 10 fingers and see out of both eyes and intend on keeping it that way. there are just some scenarios that require more than 39rpm with the door open. again, thanks for the tip on setting 7. i looked right past it. LOL. |

| Change setting 7 Parameter Lock to off. Then go to parameter 57 and turn door stop spindle to off. you will still have to turn setting 51 off everytime you power off. Unless you jumper out the doors. Which still maybe a problem if your machine is fairly new (you maybe required to cycle the door on power up). |

Just wondering if you dont let your set up guys run the machine with the door open how do you know if everything is cool when you first run the job. How do you watch for tool clearances and just the usual things that may go wrong and can be saved by the feed hold button when they first set up the machine? |

| In the 10 short months that I've been dealing with our SL30, I always run the program in the graph/simulation first, to see if I've set the turret up to crash into the chuck or not, and then run the first actual part with the rapids set at 5%, to allow enough reaction time in case I put in a fubar line of code that I had not seen before. Running with the door open is not generally a good idea. Chris |

A simple way to check for tool clearances is to run the program in Graphics with the Machine Position display open in the graphics window. If you Single Block you can make a note of the axis positions when tools are at their closest positions to the chuck. Then you can Jog the machine to these positions and check the clearance with the spindle stationary. Tool change clearances can easily be checked just by jogging the machine to the position if it mis not at machine home. The machines also have windows which we replace when they are too badly scratched to see things.
