We have a 1999 SL30 with probably around 15,000 power on hours. We purchased it 5 years ago with around 12,000 hours so clearly I haven't done much with it so far, and I have had very few issues. Though, two notable ones are the turret clamp/unclamp cylinder proximity sensors and the problem described below: Recently when it is hot and humid for several days consecutively and the machine has been powered on for an hour or two it starts placing lowercase g's into the data entry line. It adds another and another and another (get the idea? ) at random intervals until the entry line is full and will accept no more characters. This makes it VERY difficult to do much of anything; have to keep hitting reset before entering/modifying offsets, indexing turret, etc. Editing a program is basically out of the question because before I can get the entire string entered it has injected a "g" in the middle. Once the program is setup I can ignore the g's and run like normal, but like I said, it makes all setup steps very tedious.I have never had any problems with sticking or malfunctioning buttons. All keys operate with minimal pressure just like our newer VF4. There is no "beep" from the speaker as if buttons are being physically pressed. Has anyone ever seen this? It's like this machine knows when there is a rush job needing to be completed! ![]() Thank you. |

| Have you checked that all the cooling fans in the electronic cabinet are running and the filter is clean. This sounds like an overheating problem on the electronics. Provide your shop has clean air a quick check is open the cabinet door and just put a small fan blowing air inside. Not a good idea if you have grinding dust or coolant mist in the air though.

| The last time I had the cabinet open the fan(s) were running as normal. (I do not remember if there two in the SL30, I do know there are two in our VF4.) The filter is fairly new, I will take another look to be positive. I have several of the fans exactly like the units already inside the cabinet which I can add in if I find that everything else checks out. I wondered if it was related more to the heat or the humidity. Any tips for actively controlling the moisture in the air if that turns out to be a concern? |
