Hello all, I am about to attack an ID thread task in which I may need some advice. I am about to do a 1"-5 ACME thread with a 29 degree angle. I have the boring bar and inserts on order and before I get rolling on this, any special advice from you experienced threaders would be greatly appreciated. My ID dia. is 1.050 and the part thickness is 1 inch. Material is A-2. I plan on using the IPS ID Thread template.....It would be nice to know depth of cut, speeds and feeds...etc... Thanks all. |

| If it's not for mass production, don't bother with depth of cut speed and stuff, just do it gently. Put something like 0.010 of DOC and for the speed go with 200rpm. As for the feed, it's the pitch you want to make, which is 1inch/5thread= 0.2. Maybe I could give you one little advice of mine ; I always put an angle in my threading process and that angle is the angle of the tool. This way, the tool will always cut on one side of the tool and will avoid chattering in some case. IE : G76 X0.913 Z-0.85 K0.042 D0.010 F0.0714 A60 for a normal 60deg thread tool. DO NOT USE DECIMAL POINT after the angle! |
