| If you look behind the ways on the TL1 you will see a proximity detector; a little round thing with a wire going into it. When you home the machine you will see there is a small metal tab that passes in front of the proximity detector and this is how the machine finds its home position. Watch carefully when it is homing and you will see the Z slowly moves until the metal tab goes in front of the detector then changes direction and moves away from it and stops at zero. The only way to change the home position is to change either the position of the proximity detector or the metal tab. I have done this on a TL1 so the machine homes the Z only three inches from the chuck; then I changed the maximum Z stroke to 3 inches. You have to change the stroke because if you move the home position toward the chuck and leave the Z stroke the same it will crash into the end of the ball screw. If you moved the metal tab a few inches toward the end of the machine it would then home well away from the tailstock but you will have lost some Z travel. You may also need to adjust what is called the grid offset.

| Your Z RATIO will be something like 83231 and Z MAX TRAVEL 2496922; if you divide the travel by the steps per unit you will get 30 which is the Z travel in inches (you may get 29.9999) To reduce the travel to 25 inches you multiple the 83231 by 25 to get 2080775 and put this number in for the MAX TRAVEL. You have to run Setting 7 OFf and push Estop to do this. And it is on your own head if you screw up and damage your machine.
