What's next for the SL10?

Well....Apparently it would be the hydraulic cylinder for the chuck taking a crap.
Gage reads 300psi. I bored an Ecollet to do some parts that are .835 in dia. This is bar stock.
Material spins in the collet on the part tool at 200 sfm and .0025 feed.
The collet is .835 when compressed against the pins.
This machine never ceases to amaze me with it's stellar quality.
The machaine has less than 2000 cut hours, nad 4468 on hours.

Geof will become famous soon enough

The averages work out okay; that is your experience averaged with mine. My oldest SL10 which has about twice the hours of yours just needed the main drive belt replacing, and that is the first significant repair on that machine. Although my other one did need a hydraulic pump a few months back.

A comment though; have you taken the chuck apart and cleaned all the crud out of the closing wedge mechanism thingy? Don't you like my technical terminology. We had a problem and it was just chips packed in the chuck.

I know I had parts pushing and spinning a while back.
Are you at the extreme stroke of travel for clamping?
You mention a Ecollet,. Is that emergency collet running in a collet chuck?

Yes this is a 5c spindle nose
The material is .835. I bored the emergency collet to .836 with the pins in. Material spins....
There are no chips behind the spindle nose.

You need to look at if the collet closes down more than dia you had bored, otherwize there will be slip no matter what the chuck pressure is.
Did you check for this?

Of course ...
I bored it on the three .125 pins in the corners of an e collet.
I just took the stinkin thing apart and we'll rebuild the pump. At least that's what my maintanance guy tells me. Parts are on order. Be here tomorrow.
At this point I don't even care. I just want it to run. The customer called a bit ago asking about his parts....
He offered to bring the fork lift to yard it out of here.

PBMW,

How often do you take the 5C chuck off the spindle? I only ask because I have been noticing lately that the draw tube is unscrewing itself from the union on our SL-10. If it comes loose, it may not be letting the collet close completely. Good luck with the pump rebuild in the mean time!!

It comes on and off all the time. But, I do not "Think" that is the issue. I have put it on and had it not operate correctly, same with the chuck. Would not move the drawtube. Then take it apart and reassemble it and all's well. It's comming apart this morning.

Just found out that one of my operators crashed the stinkin thing.
Turrets in line...top of tool pocket is in line with X axis. But it cuts about .04 high
An ER32 holder is .042 high in Y
I think they have wanged the spindle out of alignment...

Just measured the spindle for alighnment. Less than a thou in x and Y over about 6"
Yet the turret is about .04 high. and the slots of the turret are less than a thou runout to X.
What the heck is going on here.....
