G code on PC

What do I need to view and possibly edit a Haas G code program, whether it be from a lathe or mill, on a PC.

You can edit code in any text editor you want.

Use Notepad. I have found that Wordpad would introduce stray characters into a text file and then the Haas controller would complain when they were loaded back into the machine.

And I suppose we should tell you first you have to download the program oto a floppy, usb stick or to your PC via serial transfer depending on what options your machine has.

This is all described in the Haas manual.

I have loaded programs to my pc, but have been unable to look at them. i thought i needed a special program. i may have an issue with my pc. i will try it again.

Ah! It could be you have the wrong file identifier. If you are saving to disk and do not specify txt your PC will not recognise the file.

In the list file window on the Haas when you type the program name to save it add .txt; O00000.txt or whatever the program number is. Actually you can use any name. To save O00000 to disk you just have this program selected in the list and you can type FIRST.txt and save it under that name.

use textpad you can download a trial version from their website. it has full functionality except for the nag screen on start up which goes away after a few seconds
