Geof will become famous soon enough

I suggest you think long and hard before doing this...the linear guides are exposed on the TL machines. I am sure grinding dust is not really compatible with long life for these items.

Thanks for the advise. You are correct, however the ways on most lathes are exposed. A really good cleanup at the end is obviously required.

additionally, if you just need to run a handful of parts once/twice a year you're OK. I'd also consider flushing out the coolant tank also after a grinding run.

I have used a air powered NSK Planet JIG type grinder with a 3/4" shank mounted in a QC boring bar holder. I covered everything with plastic and ran a shop vac to the business end. Didn't like doing it and won't do it again. Messy and bad for the machine. Now I just hard turn with CBN anything that hard. Also tried my THEMAC unit and only had to modify the tnut shim for height and it bolted right up.

Do you have a pic of this? I'd love to see how you mounted it.

I don't have actual photo of my setup but I used one of these mounted in one of these

If you dont NEED to grind. CBN inserts are the only way to fly. They can be had on EBAY for cheap. I get excellent surface finish and can do a very small DOC with no problem.

Weird... when submitting my post I notice that all my UPPER CASE letters have been turned to lower case automatically... hmmm

I've done some project using grinder on the tool post. I have made a complete customize toolpost milling spindle also for another project that require low speed but high torque. Work pretty well!
