SL30 with small diameter stock (1"). End of part is within 3" of chuck jaws, and parting off about 2" from chuck jaws, the part catcher tray won't fit between the turret slide and chuck, thank goodness it crashed into the turret slide and not the chuck. I can adjust it down but the part tends to fall off. I'm getting machinable jaws, but wishing I had a collet spindle chuck. any suggestions, thanks joev |

| I have approached this problem two ways. One was to make an extended holder for the parting tool so it was further out from the turret. This means the turret is back far enough for the parts catcher to come up. The other was to make extensions for the parts catcher using Coroplast fastened on with small bolts. The Coroplast is rigid enough to catch the parts but if it gets caught in the chuck or turret just crumples and tears.

I'm thinking it would be better for the whole parts catcher tray to be a thick, vacu-formed ABS, if it collided with the chuck or turret it would be less of a catastrophe, I'll end up mounting the parting tool out as you mentioned, thanks |

"less of a catastrophe"???? Maybe not. ABS is quite tough and does not shatter. It is possible that thick ABS could cause more damage than thin sheet metal if it was caught up by the chuck. A brittle plastic could possibly be better.
