The manual for the machine will have instructions for calibrating the tool setter. If you do not have a manual, you can download it from the Haas website.
I am preparing to teach a course at a community college on CNC controls and have a HAAS HL-2 lathe with a tool setter at my disposal. I have not used any HAAS lathe or mill in industry so this lathe is a new experience. I am well aquainted with Mazak lathes with tool setters and have adjusted them to be quite accurate.
My problem with the HAAS is that after I have touched of the tool (X+Z) and the tool geometry numbers are altered, the new numbers are nowhere near the geometry numbers that I got by making a cut and adding the diam for X and face cut for Z. I know the G54 will alter the Z while machining.
I would assume the tool geometry numbers (particularly in the X-axis) would be the same no matter what method you use to determine the number.
Am I missing something unique to the HAAS control or is the tool setter not calibrated correctly?
Thanks in advance,
Claude

Thanks for the reply.
I went to the site and found "Hass Lathe Manual 96-8700"
Would this apply to my specific machine?
I see on page 130 "Lathe Tool Pre-setter Alignment"
I will be at the shop today and will try this.
