    setting up tooling

I have been out of CNC machining for 7 years. My new boss wants to incorporate it into our production shop. He is looking at HASS lathe and mill. I need help jogging my memory on tooling set ups and off sets. Also the only controler I ever ran was Fanuc. Are Hass controllers OK/user friendly?
I have never hard crashed a machine and don't want to start now so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Any videos on here that might help?
    THANKS!!!!

Spend some time going through threads in the Haas forum, there are tons of information there.

I think the Haas control is user friendly but I have never used a different one so what do I know. The Haas control is definitely different to many other machines and I strongly suggest you spend a lot of time reading the manual

You will probably get people telling you that a probe is essential, I don't agree but I am a stick-in-the-mud.

Once you have the machines on hand post any specific questions you have and I am sure you will get plenty of advice.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

Check out Haas' website, they have a lot of good demo's and information that may be helpful to you.

Check with your local HFO as they sometimes have demo DVD's for the control. Also inquire if they offer any training classes; most HFO's offer free classes for both lathe and mills. Additionally, they usually have control simulators, so check and see if they will let you come in and play around with them to.

Haas has a very user friendly control, but time in front of it is always the best.

    Good luck!

Thanks haastec. Sadly the nearest haas dealer is in Conneticut and I am in Maine. But I have been checking out their website.

Northern Maine Community College offers some CNC classes and they have Haas machines.

Hi Nambder1, I had been away from Haas for 7-8 years too and to make things worse, I had been running a Siemens Shopmill Control during those years so when I got to play with the Haas again I was very surprised how quickly I got back into it, saying that there were a couple of guys I could ask if I had any problems. I quite like the Haas Lathe too, it has a pre-set cycle function you can use, just fill in the boxes and you can build a program from that or write conventional code.

I would say the best advise I have ever had was to run the first cycle in fresh air with 5% rapid.
