If I remember correctly, oursnhad that to. I think it was for the chuck guard. It probably been disabled.
Can anyone tell me what this proximity switch/sensor is supposed to be for? It is hanging out the back of the headstock of my second hand 2006 TL-1 lathe. I can not detect where or what it was attached to originally.
I never noticed it when I looked the machine over at the dealer I bought it from.
I emailed Haas with a photo, and they couldn't tell me what it was; at least the guy who answered my email anyhow.
Doesn't seem to do anything. Anybody know what it's supposed to do?
Thanks for any help. Joe

It is the detector for the chuck guard. If the machine is running okay just leave it, but if the machine gives you a Door Open message and will not run a program try taping a dime against the front of it to give it something to detect.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
Thanks for your replies fellows. The original owner rebuilt the chuck guard, so I guess he removed the sensor, but there is no indication of where it was mounted.
It must be turned off at one of the settings I guess. I thought perhaps it was a limit switch for the Z travel, as when I ran the machine all the way towards the headstock just for grins, an alarm came on stating over travel in Z. I then had to manually run it back towards the tailstock to get the alarm off.
