Here is the tech info on the insert. Assuming your SL-10 has a max spindle speed of 6000 RPM, 600 SFM is max at your smallest diameter.

Thanks,

so you saying max the "clamp" rpms @ 6000 (max on sl-10) & run 600sfm?
600 SFM at .687 Diameter is NOT 6000 RPM it is 3335. Did I miss something?

I should have confessed that I am/was a mill guy. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this surface feed (S###) & and it's relation to feed rate (F.00##). My main issue is breaking the chips. I'm getting about 100-120pcs per $5 insert now (the iscar is what $20?). That's ok. The razor wire I could do without.
thanks for the input I'm gonna try that 6grand stuff tomorrow.
You're right my fault I missed that.

You should be programming in inches per revolution (IPR), so feedrate stays constant no matter the RPM. It only looks like it's feeding faster as SFM goes up.Maybe using $5 inserts is part of your problem. Do you use $10 1/2" endmills in the mills?main issue is breaking the chips. The high dollar iscar fared no better. so I figured if i'm gonna burn up inserts they're gonna be the cheap ones! almost done with this batch. I'll school up some more before the next. Thanks for all the input on this & my next post will be how to.........
deeper cut was the trick, if it's not making chips it's making a curly-cue that is nothing like the razor wire i was getting. did test runs with different inserts & the cheapos last almost as long as the iscar. I'll crank it up to 600sfm tomorrow afternoon as a test. then 5 days off!
Throw one of these in to the mix and see how it does.
