Ive got a 2000 SL-20 with an A2-6 spindle that we run a 5c collet and a KIT 8" chuck. I would love to have a 16C collet in that machine, as switching back and forth between the chuck and collet is taking alot of time, not to mention the boring of jaws constantly. To the point!
Can I get a 16C closer with my 2" bore machine????
Thanks,
Gary

16C chuck for a 2" bore spindle?! DON'T DO IT MAN!!! Get a 2" capacity collet setup like S20 collets from Hardinge or similar. I have a 16C for our SL-10 and shoot myself everyday because it is only 1-5/8" capacity. The lathe is 1-3/4" capacity. I could have had a 3J collet nose for the same price as my 16C and it would have been 1-3/4 cap.
Depending on the size of the parts you make, I might even consider a 2.5" or 3" cap. collet chuck for it.
Also, you may want to consider a dead length style closer if you are doing tight tolerance length parts. Otherwise, if your OD varies, pullback style collets will make the lengths change if you have to re-chuck them for back working.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck!
Mike
Thank you very much for your info!! I will look into the s20 collet setup from hardinge. Fortunately, the 1 5/8 capacity will cover 98% of our work. Rarely do we see anything larger, but I will most definately look into those.
Thanks again,
Gary
