Need to add a production lathe

Hi All...I have a small job shop and we’re looking to upgrade our shop lathe to a CNC lathe (we are looking at production lathe orders). My Fadal operator suggested I look at Haas equipment. I've been looking around at all sizes and options. I can't afford to make any mistakes so I'm hoping that I can gather some knowledge from some experienced users. Help Please!

You need to outline what you're going to be doing with the lathe. I know you're a job shop, but do you tend towards 10" diameter Inconel, or 1" diameter aluminum? It makes a big difference! Also, what quantities define production to you?

We are looking at small dia. details (mostly 4" and under x 24" lg max.). Runs from 5 to 1000 pieces. Farrous and non-farrous material.

I prefer the Haas ST Series, the ST-10 might work well for your applications (Much better value):
    Haas Automation Inc. - CNC - ST-10 - Details - LATHE_SL

Haas also has a Fadal conversion tool (If you have Fadal programs):
Haas Now Speaks Fadal | Haas

Please provide a few more details:
    1. Do you require live-tooling?
    2. Do you require a conversational control or do you use a CAM package?
    3. What machines do you currently operate?
    4. Do you have CNC-skilled employees? (The TL-series could help)
    5. What is your budget?
    6. Do you have additional work available?
    7. Could a bar-feeder be utilized?
    Thanks,
    Ken Foulks

So, 5pc to 1000pc, ferrous or non ferrous. That should narrow it down!

I feel your pain though. but pretty much any NC machine will work for that...unless you need 4" bar capacity.
