TL15 Common Problems

I am going to look at a TL15 with live tooling at a dealer and wondered if any one has any info on what to look for, or problem areas with this model of machine

I have no experience of Haas lathes, only mills so any help would be appreciated. Its a 1995 model

The work cube is very small with the live tooling. You will always have to end up moving the live tooling in front of the sub spindle to drill holes. On the plus side if you aren't using the sub chuck, simply remove it and get a few inches back. It takes about 3 min. tops to put it on or take it off. I wish we would have bought the TL-25 or better yet if they made a TL-15L. Also you have to buy special tooling to use the sub spindle, you can't just put boring bars and drill bits in tool holders backwards because there is no rear clearance on the turret. One thing I would say is its very unlikely that you will be going to see a '95 TL15. I'm pretty sure that HAAS didn't start making the TL15 until at least '99 maybe even later than that.

The TL15 should have live tooling, C axis, and subspindle.

well spotted, should have been a 2005 machine not 1995, dont know where that came from
