I need a monitor for a Haas VF-5, 98 or 99 model. 12", 9 pin #93-5220c.

I understand that but if converting to an LCD was the answer then I don't see how it would be any different now?
Is there any updated information available for this?
LCD replacement for Haas CRT on VF3
We installed and have working a LCD replacement on a Haas VF3 this weekend and it appears to be working fine.
We are making a bezel to install the monitor.

I'm assuming it wasn't quite plug and play? Can you describe what was needed? I would assume its a different plug set but I haven't seen any documentation on it.
Would you be interested in making a second bezel if it turns out nice?

LCD replacement
It was plug and play.
Removed old CRT plugged 9 pin DIN connector in and powered up.
The LCD has a board in it that accepts the old signals.
The bezel has all ready been designed and I hopefully will get the master cam programs in the next day or so.
There is another post on this forum that shows the bezel.
As soon as I get all the information together I will post it.
Haas is coming to look at our installation today.
Will have word from them also after they visit.

So literally as simple as purchasing a $100 LCD from anywhere and plugging it in? The original lists as 12", yours appears larger, does it mount in the same area with the bezel?
Please excuse the ignorance but I have my first Haas coming and it needs a CRT, I was going to order it but I'd rather have an LCD and for 1/5 of the price I really don't see the downside.

Not your standard LCD
Yes and No
No it is not your standard LCD.
The LCD is a 12.5 inch LCD measured diagonally.
The LCD has special circuitry in it that will accept the older video signals.
Remember when monitors were EGA and the old twinax bank monitors?
These new LCD monitors are built to accept the older inputs. The paperwork that came with this monitor said it would accept 9 different older video signal standards.
Yes - the monitor was plug and play.
Paid for it and bought on Friday.
Opened console on Monday and unplugged CRT
Plugged in LCD and powered up it worked instantly.
The only thing I had to do was allow the monitor to "Auto" adjust and the picture came in and positioned itself just fine.
I did adjust the color temperature and allowed it to "Auto" correct.
We have been working on trying to get all the information together and will post here in the next few days.
We are very happy not to be using the CRT anymore.

This conversion was done a Haas VF3 that had a failed CRT
Removed old CRT.
*** NOTE - DANGER - Warning Will Robinson !!!!!!!!
MAKE SURE YOU DISCHARGE THE FLYBACK AND CAPS ON THE CRT BEFORE DISASSEMBLY.
GOOGLE CRT HIGH VOLTAGE TO SEE HOW TO DO THIS.
*** Take this warning seriously less you wet your pants and learn what a defibulator feels like.
Be careful to not break the CRT iteself.
EVERYTHING can be unscrewed and the whole CRT assembly can be seperated from the frame.
Removed CRT and all CRT electronics from CAD plated CRT Frame.
We saved the CRT and electronics in case we needed them.
LCD has a normal screen on it and is not protected from the elements.
We made our own screen protector.
Made a sacraficial lens/screen protector from 0.093" acrylic.
Cut screen protector on laser.
Put 0.093" holes in screen protector to allow a pencile to pass through so that the operator could press the monitor buttons on the face of the monitor.
Burned these through with the CO2 laser.
Made a backing plate out of the old monitor bracket.
Made some aluminum stand offs.
Threaded both ends of stand offs.
Placed screen protector against panel face.
Used stand offs to screw screen protector to panel face.
Put monitor against screen protector.
Shimmed the face of the monitor to keep screen protector from pressing function buttons on LCD.
Put backing plate on outside of monitor and sandwitched everything together.
Plugged in 12v power supply to 110VAC power cord in cabinet
Plugged in 9 pin DIN connector and extension cable to 9 pin DIN video supply.
Powered on monitor and machine.
Set monitor using auto adjustments
Put Cover back on machine
Make parts.

LCD monitors
cfusion really works with the end user to solve their CRT issues. I personally fell into the 10% that they can not cover my frequency. They sent me a 2nd monitor to try and also an actual CRT. The CRT worked but could not get the LCD's to work on my particular 1993 Haas VF0. I have to send them back and absorb the shipping, but I guess that is cheaper than having a tech show up at 100.00+ per hour.

Seems a lot of sales effort with no posted prices. Only a "contact us" or phone number. How much is it?

This sort of thing annoys me to no end! It is ridiculously easy (and cheap) these days to setup a simple e-commerce site where you can show off and sell your stuff. People are so much more likely to buy from you if you make it easy and are up front with all the information, including price and shipping.
