    Default Lost grub screw! - HAAS VF-4

    Hi,

    First post, here goes;

    I've got a 1998 Haas VF-4 and I've been having spindle orientation problems. I've took the covers of the headstock and it looks like the encoder pulley on the shaft end is missing a grub screw. I've got the pulley on the encoder, a toothed belt, which looks fine and then another small pulley that I can stop with my hands when I rotate the spindle. Obviously this is causing the encoder to be 'out'.

    I've noticed there isn't actually a flat where the missing grub screw sits which is strange, is that normal?

    Anyway, my main question is - does anyone know what size thread this grub screw will be? It looks *roughly* 3/16, not sure on the pitch/tpi.

    Thanks.

    It will very likely be 1/4"-20 UNC. It may be 10-24 which is close to 3/16" OD.

    An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

    Don't know if it's worth starting a separate thread for this, I've got a damaged waycover on this machine.

    Where would I go about getting a replacement, is it a direct from Haas job?

    I'm in the UK, has anybody got any ideas of prices?

    I guess it would depend on how fast you need to be back up and running. If things arnt tight I would checdk around locally. Your best bet to get back up and running fast would be to call Haas direct or Arthur Machinery 1-800-562-2423 out of Chicago Illinois.

    Try these guys, way covers repaired fast turnaround.

    I have one of their replacement way covers on the z axis of my fadal. It's great quality and about half the price of the teleflex cover.
