My HAAS VF2 is making a grinding noise during a tool change. I made a video of it. You can hear it during the second tool change. Its like a grinding squeak when the drawbar pull up the tool holder. It will also pause in the middle of a tool change and take 2-3 seconds till it pulls up the drawbar and pulls out the tool carrier. I have searched for this but I am only finding threads on the tool holder popping out of the spindle. Any help would be appreciated.

So did the tool pull-up time slow down markedly to 2-3 secs ?
There is;
less air-power, or
more friction,
problems in one or more mechanisms.
Air-leaks ? Is there good pressure and volume on air ? Are You sure ? .. why ?
If it takes 3 secs to pull up a tool, this sounds extremely slow.
Maybe, the belleville springs are shot.
This is common, and all spindles will need springs at some point. Cheap.
200-300k toolchanges.
Buy the whole drawbar assy, 300$ or so. Do not try to mickey mouse it.
It must be either the drawing/pulling system, the drawbar, or a catastrophic spindle/tool taper error.
Or air pressure/volume.
It was somewhat common for drawbar assys to fail in the bellevilles- usually via time and lots of toolchange use (like upto 3 million !!! ??).
I could see some spring parts falling inside, and creating the noise/drag.
As I said, please *do not* try to mickey mouse with it - vs a cheap 3-500$ total haas retail assy.
Buy the whole new drawbar set with springs. Imo.
I am having the same issue with my Mini Mill. Did you ever find the problem/solution?
Thanks.
